and here i am...
how pathetic.
I threw snowballs today. it was great anger management/cheering up...
it goes like this:
-pack a snowball
-think of the person/quality/thing you want to smash into the wall
-throw it as hard as you can as you yell
-laugh
i tried to make a smiley face on the wall (too bad it didn't work)
& i'd put up a picture, but i was too lazy to go outside AGAIN and take a pic.
why is it that when i talk about throwing snowballs, people immediately think of softball?
not excited for next year's softball... :P
my reigning thought on the bus ride home was "i must be the biggest failure because so many people believe in me, yet i can't believe in myself."

incoherent?
-After I finished my French Test, (I was one of the last ones), I was gonna go do my OSAP stuff.
-The other girl went with the teacher to get something.
-So I took the stairs to the basement, only to realise that the NSLC kiosk (where i needed to go) was on the third floor...where i just came from!
-Took the elevator back to third floor...where...
-DING. The teacher and the other student were waiting for the elevator!
IMAGINE seeing someone leaving DOWN the stairs, and then see her AGAIN going UP the elevator. (in the time that you walked to the elevator)
no no, wait! there's more.

There are three routes I take to get home on the TTC:
So for the past while, i took route #2. Today, however, i took route #3. i got on, smiled and said good afternoon to the bus driver, and, since i usually fall asleep...well, i fell asleep. and when i woke up at finch, i got off. BUT I DIDN'T HAVE TO! anyways, so i took the next finch bus, which happened to be a FINCH express bus (meaning they skip all the little stops), which passed the orange line bus by FAR.
I took it all the way to the closest main street after my house, and had to walk back. What was funny....was that i saw that bus again, and smiled at the bus driver, again, from the sidewalk, walking the opposite way.
no? let me recap:
1)get on bus, smile at driver
2)bus driver sees me get off at finch
3)bus driver sees me get walking towards the way we were coming from
it's like there's two of me! wouldn't that be nice. O.o
...incoherent?

But i'm singing a new song...
TESTIFY TO LOVE by Avalon
All the colors of the rainbow
All the voices of the wind
Every hand that reaches out
That reaches out to find where love begins
"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love." - John 15:9
How do you remain in God's love...show God's love...on the field?
What does it FEEL LIKE to practice the presence of God, while competing?
HOLY SWEAT!
"must show that I'm different!"
Sure, let me laugh it all the way! But being Christlike in the game is SO MUCH MORE.
dani as a nurse? are you SURE?
"so why did you choose to do nursing?"
but none of this gives me the extensive motivation that nursing requires. i haven't found my zone inside nursing that makes me love it. i have barely any motivation to go found out more, get involved in it more, etc.
It's not just that, but that i feel so different from my classmates. they're so hardworking, they get things done, are able to make good decisions and do it quickly...is that what a nurse is supposed to be like? Saturday, September 15, 2007

SUMMER 07 Part 1: Girls, commitment, and catapillars
Phenomenology: to me, it's trying to understand someone through their lived experience.
Now it's been a long time since summer, and i'm lazy, why not jump into my summer experience by seeing what was said "back then"?
POST WRITTEN ON JUNE 14, 2007.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
God's definitely been good....I feel like I've learned so much from the girls at work, Nancy & Amy. very long lunches...can you imagine the GIRL TALK that goes on?! We stuff ourselves like...bike tires with air-- until we're so bloated we're stiff! it's so bad...but SO GOOD. "why do we DO this to ourselves?!" I've been so blessed with these friends that prompt me to be more consistent in prayer, in reminding ourselves that we're working for God, and make me laugh non-stop....friends that I can offer my little piece to, also. and not just the girls, but the pastoral staff, Rici, and Ivan who shows up at our meetings. Gah, i'm so blessed!
----------------------------------------------------------------
Anywho, ...let it be random.
two things i'm afraid of: girls and catapillars.
Girls....oh girls. I've always had a harder time talking to girls because i feel like they're the ones that i'm supposed to form closer relationships with, and have all these awesome girl talks with. So i've been afraid to form those relationships, fearing what other girls think of me (i'm not..really...your typical chica). and dwelling on that so much that i don't live the moment; instead, i'll be so conscious of what i'm saying and what i'm doing. I told a friend once that maybe it's because i feel like they're more accomplished as a woman than I am....what a possibility. What a crazy thing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm working on it though. Trying to live the moment, and it's been quite a journey learning to be satisfied with myself, with who God's made me to be. I want to be able to offer of myself to others, and learn from them. Especially my sisters in Christ, women of God.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The second week of work, Nancy and I went around the neighborhood to hand out flyers. Door to door we went, cuz MAYBE, someone would come to the BBQ and sign up for VBS!
But almost to the sweeney area, CATAPILLARS began appearing EVERY FEW STEPS. GAaaahh.....we ran all the way back to church.
I guess it's their squishyness, like a sponge, and their stubs for legs. and the way they crawl. aaahhhhhhh my worst NIGHTMARES had catapillars in them!
And i refuse to post a picture of a catapillar on this blog!
----------------------------------------------------------------
Commitment has been on my mind a lot.
How committed am I to my closest friends? To my family? to my promises?
I've realized how BAD i am at keeping promises (ie chores). sure, i have the most willing heart....i'm definitely the first son in that vineyard parable. (forgot the passage)
I'vd stopped promising to pray for people unless i definitely know i will...my better version of the "sure!" is "i can't promise anythign, cuz i don't know if i'll go through with it".
Devos, are one of the greatest commmitements. I'm trying to do different things all the time, so i don't have a "routine" devo. I guess change works for me better.....and routines become to robotic to remember the meaning of the work.

oops.
oh well. until another day!

...drunk.
When you overhydrate, this causes the sodium ion concentration to be abnormally low in the fluid outside the cells. Sodium affects the nervous system first, and
"the individual behaves as if drunk on alcohol. This condition, called water
intoxication, is extremely dangerous. Untreated cases can rapidly
progress from confusion to hallucinations, convulsions, coma, then death."
=O !!!
don't overhydrate!! but fortunately few of us will drink near-pure water...much less enough of it to kill us.

Lent
It began with doubts, since commitment is one of my weakest of weaknesses. Every time I "commit" to something, it simply dwindles away. Each time i vowed to eat healthy, every bible study book, every computer curfew, every exercise schedule, or even the promises i've made...they simply dwindled away. This Lenting-ness...it must have been all God!

Lenting Facebook was my giving my community to God. There's been many times where i wondered what it would be like without my family, my friends, my church community
...what if all i had left was God?
I've cried over the thought of it. I couldn't survive without community. But God showed me so much more!
You DO work in interesting ways.
God, you've helped my self-esteem by not looking at other people, by not seeing what their interactions were like (yes, i stalked!)...and comparing their relationships to mine.
I've been more thankful. appreciative. giving . confident. Less jealous, wasted a bit less time.
You've driven me to ask and listen more, instead of finding out everything through facebook. =)
Thank you, Jesus! i don't know if i want to go back...this is such a nice place to be.
-------------------------------------
MSN sites....you know those "Windows Live Today" popups every time you sign into MSN? I'm a sucker for the MSN Today articles (not the news ones), especially if there are galleries from the Academy Awards or something. yes, i like fashion too! ...and celeb gossip!
But once again, Lord You are good....maybe it's because i've stopped looking at those sites and focused on REAL people, that i've slowly lost my interest in...that stuff. In perfect (or not so perfect)-looking people and every detail and rumour about their lives. Hehe, i was able to resist a Fashion magazine while in the gym today (i don't usually read, but this was a particularly long bike ride). =)
Really, I DO have a very feminine side.
--------------------------------------------------------
Fasting FOOD. I actually jumped to it, since i'd been trying not to eat so much anyways. The sunday lunch after that service, though, James and Albert reminded me that fasting is useless if the heart isn't for God.
I kinda thought. Kinda rethunk. there were much better things to fast than food (aka facebook), things that would help draw me closer to God. The incentive for fasting food would be too overwhelmed by the desire to not eat so much.
I fasted food anyways. I wanted to do this as a part of a fellowshipping with ETers. Doing something together...but I'm not so sure anything happened, except for the constant thought "Lord, I draw my strength from You."
Today. I fasted breakfast and lunch. Interestingly enough, i went to the bathroom more than a couple times for #2. HAHA I was STILL digesting stuff from the night before! Maybe God used this to clean out my digestive system, since i actually drank my whole bottle of water today. =) And...i didn't feel hungry at all! it's as if God really, literally meant that "He who comes to me shall never go hungry...."
hahaha...sounds naive...but i'll thank God anyways. =) sometimes it's the smallest things that bring the greatest joy...
Breaking of Lent service was nice. Nice, quiet time of prayer and eating a filling sandwich, with some beautiful piano in the background. Sharing communion, and calling someone "sister", that someone being likely older than my mom. Still trying to embrace the terms of brothers and sisters in Christ...applicable to ANY child of God, including parents.
----------------------------------------------------
Jesus...
I need you. now that this 'deadline' has passed...i don't want to continue being tempted. Help me draw my strength from You. i am but one of many...i'm not Noah. Humble me...teach me, God.Thursday, March 29, 2007

learning to trust...
God, You're amazing indeed.
Thanks for reminding me that I CAN trust You to come through with Your promises. And that you are guiding my decisions, my thoughts, my actions. I trust You, God. my Rock. My foundation.
Yet...I fail in this relationship a lot. As much as I try to grab hold of You and not let go, I always have a fear in my mind, anticipating the next time I fail You. I wish it would stop...to let You grab hold of me...and make me let myself go. I need to trust you in this area.
so maybe I don't trust you all the way yet. ...still learning. still giving little bits at a time...
Countless times, I've given my life to You. "I give You all of me", I sing. "This life is Yours", I say. and yet...if my life was really all Yours, I wouldn't have to say it again, to drift away and need to be renewed. I guess it's a good thing, though, to renew my commitment often.
-------------------------------
Anywho, Lord, a friend and I have decided for sure to do this thing this summer. After talking about it a lot, and praying a bit (sorry, this part needs brushing up), I feel like there's not that many other options. I'm feeling more confident since there are those that believe we're capable...but I'm hoping, longing for more confirmation.
Deep down I still feel inadequate. Tim mentioned that it's a good thing, inadequacy, because it allows for more growth and flexibility. But it's gonna take one of my weakest...weaknesses. I'm fearing that I will, like last year, get distracted, stressed, & departed from You. That's my greatest fear right now.
Thanks for placing Friend in my life, first and foremost a friend, and a prayer and accountability partner, one who hears me and who can be heard by me. It's such a joy to talk and share with her, Lord! You've definitely blessed me beyond what I'd hoped for.
----------------------------------------
I've realized that every time I'm in a leadership position, I get prideful, the feeling of superiority, and the consciousness of every situation, instead of living it. I'm afraid to be a leader because I don't foster growth and interdependence, I simply "help" them myself. In the end, the attention and credit comes back to me. I want to be able to see more potentioal in those under my leadership than they see in themselves. I want to be able to encourage them to depend on eachother, and to be able to help and grow with eachother, and not just with me.
I admire Nancy for her longing to simply be a friend, not someone older and to be respected, or a mentor, even, but simply someone at the same "level", so to say. It's so hard to see it that way.
--------------------------------------------------------
I wish people didn't admire me. Or look up to me. Because I know that I'd disappoint them.....
Lord of Creation,.... I have so many doubts and inadequacies that fill my mind. I'm afraid, I'm prideful, and I'm blessedly thrown opportunities from every direction. I know what I need to do, God...and I know it's impossible without You.
Thanks for being so....good.

Escucharte Hablar
sometimes i cry when i worship, when i feel convicted or moved....or just hearing God speak. And every time, I think of this song, it gives me the reason behind my crying, in a sense. =)
Escucharte Hablar
by Marcos Witt
Quiero escuchar Tu dulce voz --------I want to hear Your sweet voice
Rompiendo el silencio en mi ser ------Breaking the silence in my soul
Se que me haria estremecer ---------I know it would make me tremble
Me haria llorar o reir --------------It would make me cry or laugh
Y caeria rendido ante Ti ------And I would fall surrendered before You
Y no podria estar ante Ti -------- And I wouldn't be able to stand before You
Escuchandote hablar -----------------Hearing You speak
Sin llorar como un niño -------------Without crying like a child
Y pasaria el tiempo asi -------------And time would pass like this
Sin quere nada mas, -----------------Wanting nothing more,
Nada mas que escucharte hablar ------Nothing more than to hear You speak
Sometimes, when we truly come before God...and hear Him speak....we just can't help being awed, amazed, humbled, grateful,...moved.
mmm.. beautiful song. If you don't speak spanish, i guess it won't do much in listening to it...but oh well! :D

thanks imelda!

Worshiping my valentine....
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! or in spanish, it's FELIZ DIA DE LA AMISTAD (happy day of friendship...SO much better!)
....Jesus is my valentine [insert heart]. Today he gave me a beautiful sunlight shimmering in the new, pure white snow. XD Funny, cuz just yesterday i was thinking about how incredibly dirty the snow/ice had become...if only i had a picture to show the diff!!
Well! google.images is ok at these things...

dirty snow [left]
pretty shimering snow with sunlight on it [right]too bad the "sunlight on snow" doesn't really show the shimmering...=p
I'm still thinking about Urbana. Still trying to grasp what happened there....
I think another thing I learned at Urbana was to embrace worship...in fellowship with others. I'm still struggling with that, but Urbana gave awareness of it.
Whenever I worship in song, I feel like it's a very personal thing...and to "really" worship, it's like i have to imagine everyone around me back off into darkness...until all that's left is me and the powerpoint of words. To tune out everyone around me, so it's just me and God.
...but i've been learning to embrace the voices around me, to sing WITH them, as a whole while each in individual worship. To dance with the saints I'm part of, to smile, cheer, shout to the Lord with them.
It's hard...
how do you worship in fellowship, in a way that you're not just "going with the hype"?
I find myself molding into whatever environment i'm singing to God in....
If i'm at an ET sunday service, worship quietly. the most would be to raise the hands halfway.
At Urbana, it was jump, dance, raise hands high, shout the praises.
At youth group (CR one) it was standing even when no one else was. because everyone else did.
It's so much easier to worship freely when those around your worship freely. How is one supposed to worship freely, while still being very present and part of the people around them?
How shameful is it that I can't even stand when I'm compelled to, DURING worship night, when the leader has already invited us to, among a fellowship of bros/sis...how shameful. =[
...and especially when singing "I STAND in awe of You..." (we should sing this sometime)
Just wondering....is it etiquette? not to distract others by being different?
Jesus...my soul's lover...I want to learn to worship you wholeheartedly. Lead me by the hand, take me into that Holy of Holies where You are. Where you can show me the sweet spot of worship...the way you've created me to worship you best, closest.

dinner gone wrong...
8:00pm, we're hungry, so I attempt to cook dinner. =) let the fun begin.
Since I couldn't find other meat in the house, EGGS it was. This is my attempt to fry eggs.

(there are 4 attempts in here. what you don't see, is the one in the back that isn't burnt to black.) I'm pretty sure this happened because the ____ got burned. *any help? what's this thing called?? in canto it's 'wok tsan'.
yup. the rice didn't even come out right...very mushy rice, cuz I put too much water. (yes, i used a rice cooker. but i blame it on the cup that i used to scoop the rice with...i think it was smaller than standard, because i filled the 'bo' to the right line.)

however, still good! the only thing i didn't mess up was the CORN. (how can you not love ready-made canned foods!) I even spilled watered-down-soy-sauce as I was getting the leftover choi from the microwave. ...hmm maybe i should go clean that up now....
in all....
wasn't THAT bad, was it?
..
....
......ok it was. so Wes takes a chance at frying eggs.
This is his first attempt: he didn't wait for the pan to heat up.

it didn't turn out so bad. i think it's just the camera. but GUALA! this is his second, and best-out-of-all-of-them, attempt.
mmmmm...cholesterol-packed dinner. 3 eggs each.
don't you ever wonder how they make food actually look GOOD up close? and don't you wonder how i got to be a cook at Daniel's winter retreat?
anywho, the way i see it, better it happen now than after i get married and discover all these hidden (not to mention horrendous) cooking skills! ALIAS, we need a skills night on cooking!

bookworm.
Presenting: Every young woman's battle....a battle for PURITY. can't say i liked it in the beginning, thought it was too much of "this book will change your life" advertisements...but yes, interesting insights.
And here: Captivating: Unveiling the mystery of a woman's soul.
LOVING it. the line that kept catching my eye today..."God didn't just love me. He LOOOOOVED me! Intimately, personally, completely."
It's refreshing to be reminded that our God WANTS and LONGS for a relationship with us...not just as a Master, not just as a Father, not just as a Friend....but as a LOVER. (easier for girls to see this) meaning: romance. Imagine if Song of Songs was written for you....from God. mmmm love letter. =) you know how those love songs have messages along the lines of "i love you so much i would give you all the stars" etc. (no? is it just me?) well, God's already done that :D
-got a 1/2 length locker...didn't know you had to bring a lock. =( so i used this (<---) from the stuffed toy on my backpack to "lock" it. ingenious! .....no, not really. so i took my time and pretended to get stuff until everyone else left the locker room to put it on and leave :DSaturday, January 13, 2007
half nelson.
Function: noun
: a wrestling hold in which one arm is thrust under the corresponding arm of an opponent and the hand placed on the back of the opponent's neck

...or half Nelson?

*edit Jan. 15, 3:23 pm. i added 2 new pictures of a wrestling half-nelson because wes was unsatisfied with the original one.
*edit Jan 18, 11:55pm.
....OR..Half-Nelson the movie? starring Ryan Gosling... (i've never watched it)
