So remember what i said last time about falling asleep in class? "you can tell..."

AND....it's finally OFF. This piece of rope has been on my wrist since the first week of ranger camp last summer...(i think). We were sitting around the fire pit, in a circle. We passed around the rope (uncut at the time) and when it got to us, shared why we came to the camp and what our expectations and goals were. =) and then we each got a piece of it, and the camp supervisors had to come around and burn/melt the rope together. MMMM FIRE.

Anywho, considering the massive amounts of bacteria, dirt, and sicknesses that have built up in this bracelet...good thing it's off.
Oh, the reason? We were learning about handwashing in the Nursing Practice lab, and we weren't allowed any bracelets or jewelry on our hands.
Quite the disgusting lab....we rubbed lotion-like stuff all over our hands at the beginning. Little did we know this was GermaGlow--it simulated bacteria. So after a bit of lecture, we got to see our hands--and hte rest of our bodies--under the blacklight, and anywhere the GermaGlow got to..it GLOWED. (har har) you don't realize how much bacteria you spread all over yourself--when you scratch your nose or straighten your shirt, push your hair out of your way. yea...it's gross. Ezpecially things like rings and bracelets...the stuff accumulates in massive amounts cuz not many people think of washing them.
So we had to learn proper handwashing technique, to see how well we really washed away the bacteria. After some pretty intense rubbing, we looked at our hands under the blacklight again. Most people still had the glowing bacteria on their nail beds.
The moral of the story is: you should wash your hand for 10-15 seconds, or about the same amount of time it takes to sing the happy birthday song. and turn the taps off with a dry paper towel.
