- Darn it. I think i'm getting dumber by the day. University doesn't make you more intelligent...maybe more mature...but it hasn't helped me much.
I've decided not to post TOO many bloopers, or try to recall them, because it only magnifies my clumsiness and stupidity...and causes me to make more. =$
- I've realized how....crude i've become. looking back at a 2005 post...when i was angry at 'family guy' for being perverted and crappy. wow. i'm probably just as bad now. =$ yes. i probably learned it during this summer with the guys....but i could bet i'm probably one of the worst now.
check out the verse i found the other day...God's saying something...
"Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly." 2 Timothy 2:16
mmm.how straightforward can it get?! =O

Interesting bit on 'godless chatter.'
Gossip networks were the main way information got around, good or bad information. There were some women who would spend so much time gossipping that they ended up wasting the day and not doing any work. Hence we see things like,
Just as cooks pray for a good crop of young animals and fishermen for a good haul of fish, in the same way busybodies pray for a good crop of calamities or a good haul of difficulties that they, like cooks and fishermen, may always have something to fish out and butcher. (Plutarch, "On Being a Busybody")
Called busybodies, Plutarch describes their behavior as not only a job, but also as low as fishermen and cooks--people who deal with dirty stuff.
Note that gossip networks are not inherently bad. Since it was the main way information got around, anyone's struggles would be known to the group, or any benefits, joys... it was an important part of communal bonding, maintaining social order, including praising and shaming relevant behaviors. An example of modern gossip networks are Friday night prayer meetings, when the struggles of people in our community are made known.
In other words, 'chatter' is only godless when it takes priority over things more important--in ancient life for women, housework, clothes, food, and children (although gossip would be done during many activities). In modern Western life for Christians...

Matt, 'godless chatter' refers to the socially, um, unconstructive uses of gossip networks. :P
